What to do if a windshield chip occurs?

Whether a windshield chip can be repaired will be assessed by automotive glass specialists. Before going to Carglass®, you can easily evaluate the criteria and determine the possibility of repair:

• The chip’s diameter should not be larger than the diameter of a 2-euro coin.
• The chip should be outside the driver’s line of sight.
• The distance to the edge of the glass should not exceed 6 cm.

If the chip does not meet any of these criteria, the windshield will need to be replaced.

It is important to visit an automotive glass workshop immediately so that specialists can assess the possibility of repairing the chip and fix the damaged glass. During the repair process, the glass structure is restored, the glass regains its strength and clarity, and the repaired area becomes almost invisible – like a scar from a wound. Strength and appearance are restored by using a special resin designed for chip repair.

If you notice even a small chip on your car’s windshield, we do not recommend delaying too long. Even the smallest crack can expand at any time, cover the entire windshield, and impair visibility. In such a case, windshield replacement will definitely be necessary.
