After replacing the windshield, following the manufacturer’s instructions, we will calibrate the ADAS cameras and sensors so that the smart driver assistance systems work properly and can ensure safe vehicle control.

About calibration at Carglass® centers

Carglass® will not only replace or repair the car glass, but will also calibrate the cameras integrated into the windshield, i.e. ensure that the advanced driver assistance systems integrated into the windshield function properly and help the driver avoid incidents on the road.

If the car windshield is equipped with ADAS (Advanced driver assistance systems), the cameras must be calibrated after replacing the glass. Even the smallest 1 mm error in the camera angle can affect a significant deviation from the lane and create a danger on the road.

Calibration is a precise and responsible job that requires professional skills and competence. Why is calibration necessary?

Calibration after windshield replacement is necessary to restore the intelligent system to the same conditions it had before the replacement.

Replacing the windshield can cause slight shifts in the position of the camera. Since ADAS systems rely on highly precise measurements, even the smallest deviation can significantly affect system performance. An improperly calibrated camera may misinterpret road signs, lane markings, or distances to other objects, which can lead to incorrect system responses and increase the risk of an accident.

Calibration ensures that the ADAS system operates according to the standards set by vehicle manufacturers and delivers the intended functionality.

When is calibration necessary?

If your vehicle is equipped with an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), which relies on the interaction of sensors and cameras, calibration will be required after windshield replacement. Once the windshield is replaced, the cameras must be precisely installed and recalibrated according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Incorrect calibration can significantly affect the functionality of critical safety systems, such as emergency braking and lane departure warning—directly impacting your safety while driving.

The main purpose of ADAS systems is to protect passengers, pedestrians, and cyclists, prevent traffic accidents, and reduce the risk of collisions. These systems operate with the help of various sensors that monitor the road environment and interior, along with microprocessors and controllers that process the data.

According to the EU Vehicle General Safety Regulation, these intelligent systems are expected to help save more than 25,000 lives and prevent at least 140,000 serious injuries by 2038.
